Each year Desktop and Laptop Brands update their flagship with the latest hardware releases. Mainly on screen, CPU, RAM and Storage.
There are several models of recognized brands that compete to get the best laptop and for this reason we have made a Top with the best laptops in several categories: Best Ultrabook, best convertible Laptops, hybrid, for Gamers, Economic and luxury.
The review and performance results are based on the tests of major technology journals so their results are true when subjected to numerous tests.
The Best Laptops in the Market 2017
Best Ultrabook
Dell XPS 13
Dell has made several changes since 2016: earlier this year switched its CPU to the Skylake (Seventh Edition), adds a USB type C port that serves as an alternative load port, and offers to update the storage options.
The latest update keeps it as the best Ultrabook, with the same chassis and a slightly larger battery. Overall it achieves improved performance, with a half hour more battery life during video playback.
The Dell XPS 13 version maintains the balance between portability, compact size, and the performance we like so much. Our only persistent complaint is the small keyboard, but overall, it's a truly compact ultrabook.
Second best ultrabook
HP Specter 13.3
The HP Specter 13.3 is one of the most stylish ultrabooks. One might expect that such a slim laptop will carry a lower-voltage processor (Core M), but instead it carries Skylake Core i7-6500U. That puts it on par with other, thicker ultrabooks (like the XPS 13). Combined with its 256GB M.2 SSD, it runs smoothly and quickly during typical work.
HP also made the ports feature: two Thunderbolt 3 ports as well as a USB-C port.
The drawbacks of this modern and stylish laptop are its battery life, due to its smaller battery, and its wider frame. (Hardware configuration and cooling requires a certain amount of space engineering) It is for these reasons that we prefer the Dell XPS 13.
The Best Convertible Laptop
Specter x360
The updated version, which just released in October, distances its predecessor by being smaller, thinner, and noticeably lighter, while still delivering excellent performance and battery life.
Inside the tests with a Core i7 Kaby Lake I do very well the tasks like word processing and edition of spreadsheets, and it handles games like Minecraft and League of Legends in the configuration of image of low resolution. The battery in the tests lasted almost eleven hours during continuous video playback.
This convertible is so good, it is on par with the best Ultrabook. If it were not for the wide aspect ratio trackpad and the low number of ports (only three in total), I could have won.
Best Laptop Ultrabook - Quality Price
The Asus Zenbook UX305F is simply the best offer for an ultrabook that has been seen so far. In the 8GB version of RAM and a 256GB SSD is the most economical ultrabook. The body is aluminum, and the screen is a 1920 × 1080 IPS screen with anti-glare finish. It is also one of the thinnest ultrabooks of today, approximately 12 mm thick and weighing only 2.6 lbs.
The CPU, Asus took a step sideways, with Intel's Core M on the original UX305 and the new Core m3 on the upgraded UX305. In tests with its upgraded version UX305 m3, the first results say that it is comparable in every way, except maybe performance.
There are some sacrifices: There is no background lighting on the keyboard, which is pretty standard on any Ultrabook today and the trackpad is a bit small.
Best Luxury or Luxury Laptop
Surface Book i7
There is no other way to describe Microsoft's Surface Book as anything more than a luxury item. The desired configuration with a Graphics Card under the keyboard is only available from $ 1,650 or $ 999 with Windows 10S. But what you get is great.
It starts with a 13.5-inch high-resolution display, a discrete GeForce option, a dual-core Skylake CPU, and exceptional battery life. In addition to being able to remove the screen to use it in tablet form with the pen included is only a major advantage.
The performance in general is near in the first places of the other ultrabooks, mainly in the model Core i7. In the graphics part, including video encoding with acceleration, is up to this configuration.
Best Hybrid Laptop
Microsoft Surface Pro 2017
The combination of an Intel Skylake chip, a new keyboard type deck and the help of a faster SSD puts the Pro at a higher performance level.
The reigning winner in this category should come as no surprise, given that Microsoft gave way to the concept of hybrid tablet / portable devices. The Surface series is really an evolutionary step beyond the typical "convertible" devices that separate physically from the keyboard to function independently.
It has a higher resolution screen, great performance, and its keyboard and trackpad is far from the competition designs.
The only caveat: Its basic price is 949 euros and with the essential keyboard case it adds $ 130 to the price and the and the Surface Pen will cost 99 dollars. (No, it is not included.). This new Surface Pro will be available on June 15, 2017.
Hybrid runner
Samsung Galaxy S TabPro
The Galaxy S TabPro is not a Pro-killer surface, but it's an awesome convertible, even with keyboard shortcomings and a rare darkening screen behavior.
The first Samsung convertible is incredibly thin, extremely lightweight, and has a beautiful OLED display. With very reasonable performance results in the types of basic tasks you will get used to and with an achievement of almost nine hours of video playback time.
What keeps it out of the first place is that it only has one USB port (type AC) and no security devices are included, the display dims after one minute of inactivity without the option to disable the function, and its included keypad is not feel comfortable.
That said, the TabPro S costs less than Surface Pro 4, while offering that beautiful screen.
