Samsung introduce glasses for Microsoft's mixed-media platform at $ 499

The Samsung HMD Odyssey has two AMOLED screens, built-in headphones, motion sensors and microphone. They work with the Windows Mixed Reality platform.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Microsoft and Samsung today unveiled the Samsung HMD Odyssey glasses, which run on the mixed-media platform Windows Mixed Reality, during a meeting with reporters in the city today to discuss the latest developments in platform of Microsoft in the facilities of one of the Academies of Mixed Reality of the company.
The Samsung HMD Odyssey joins a growing number of third-party systems working with Microsoft's mixed-media platform, which powers the powerful HoloLens augmented reality glasses. However, unlike the HoloLens that are augmented reality glasses, these third-party glasses are totally immersive, so they look more like virtual reality glasses like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Live.
"Computers will give us the ability to renegotiate our contract with reality," said Alex Kipman of Brazil, leader of Microsoft's mixed-media efforts. During the presentation, Kipman emphasized the "convenience" of glasses designed for the Microsoft platform, based on what he indicates is the ease of connecting them to the PC and beginning to use them, and the "choice" of have such variety of devices and brands, which cost from US $ 399.
Alanna Cotton, vice president of Samsung Electronics America, said the goal with the Odyssey was "to create high-performance glasses that are easy to connect." Cotton was not physically present at the presentation but sent a "holographic" recording of his comments.
Like those two systems, the glasses under the Microsoft platform rely on a wired connection to a computer. Microsoft defines the Windows operating system Mixed Reality as a software that combines the physical world with the digital world in three dimensions that runs on the Windows operating system. The update Fall Creators Update of Windows 10, which will arrive on October 17, will include new mixed-reality platform functions.

The Samsung HMD Odyssey has two 3.5-inch AMOLED displays with 110-degree field of view, integrated AKG 360-degree hearing aids, location sensors, microphone and motion controls. The glasses are now available in pre-order at the Microsoft Store along with the Acer Reality Goggles Mixed Reality Headset, Dell Visor, HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset and Lenovo Explorer. Several of the latter will be available on 17 October.
The Samsung HMD Odyssey will cost US $ 499 with controls and will be available in November and from now on pre-sale.
Microsoft also announced that the Halo: Recruit mixed-experience will be available for free from the Windows Store on October 17th. You can also play in Microsoft's physical stores as of that date.
