Microsoft introduces Surface Book 2, adds 8th generation processors and even a GTX 1060
December 13, 2017
Microsoft has presented the renewal of its
laptops with the Surface Book 2. This equipment does not change too much in
terms of the exterior, although the interior itself has received a boost of
features. This equipment is rather convertible, since part of the connectivity
and power of the equipment is integrated into the base.
There are models with 13.5-inch screen with
resolution of 3000 × 2000 pixels, and 15-inch with resolution of 3240 × 2160 pixels.
Both are tactile and have a static 1600: 1 contrast. The chassis of the
equipment is aluminum, with a size of 312 × 232 × 23 mm for the first model and 343 × 251 × 23 mm for
the second. As it happened with the first Surface Book, they will be premium
equipment with a price more than premium, to the MacBook.
The processor options include a Core
i5-7300U dual-core 3.5 GHz multithreaded, and a much more recent Core i7-865U
four-core 4.2 GHz multithreaded. They are accompanied by at least 8 GB of 1866
MHz LPDDR3 memory, and between 256 GB and 1 TB of PCIe type SSD.
This time Microsoft has included, finally
and after the criticism of its latest equipment, a type C USB connector,
although it is limited to USB 3.0 connectivity instead of being Thunderbolt 3.
An untapped opportunity for, as I say, the price that They have-that you'll see
at the end. They also have two other USB 3.0 connectors, a 3.5 mm connector and
the Surface connector to join the base-keyboard. Includes 802.11 ac wifi,
Bluetooth 4.2 and SD card reader.
In the graphical section, the 13.5-inch
model can be configured with a GTX 1050, and the 15-inch model with a GTX 1050
of 2 GB or GTX 1060 of 6 GB - it looks like it will be a Max-Q version with
less consumption , although Microsoft has not indicated it-, that will be
installed in the base-keyboard. The Core i5 processor includes an integrated
Graphics HD 620, and the Core i7 a UHD Graphics 620, whose main difference lies
in the playback of 4K content with HDCP 2.2. It has a 5 Mpx front camera and 8
Mpx rear camera.
The price of these equipment, very good in
principle in terms of performance, part of the $ 1499 for a Core i5, 13.5-inch
screen, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. If you want a GTX 1050 with a Core
i7, at least 1999 dollars will be paid, while if you want the GTX 1060 will
have to loosen 2499 dollars, which reaches 3299 dollars if you want with 16 GB
of RAM and 1 TB storage. Reservations start on November 9, and they go on sale
on November 16.
