Five strengths of the Chinese tablets, and some buts to keep in mind

January 23, 2018

Of course, the main claims of the Chinese tablets is their quality / price ratio, but it is clear that there are some sections in which this is more notable than in others. What are the strengths of Chinese tablets? And, depending on what we are looking for, in which cases are we most interested in taking them into account and in which cases not so much?

Metal housings

Although with the increasing presence of Huawei tablets (which are not what we normally consider Chinese tablets, it is true that they also arrive there) is something that is changing a bit, one of the points in which these devices stand out is that, except for the cheapest models, practically there is not any that does not arrive with a flaming metal casing., something interesting, as we always say, not only for aesthetic reasons, but also for durability.

Some even begin to include fingerprint readers and USB type C ports. It must be taken into account, however, that the fact that they arrive with metal casings does not put them ahead in design without more and, even with cases de plastics, many of the tablets of conventional manufacturers are more solid or leave us more attractive lines and better optimization in dimensions.

Screens with high resolution

Another feature in which Chinese tablets seem to be far ahead of the mid-range is the resolution: with some exception (such as the Yoga Tab 3 Plus), it is rare to find a tablet from a large manufacturer that offers Quad HD resolution by minus 350 euros, and the best mid-range arrive with Full HD resolution; among Chinese tablets we can find them often for less than 200 euros.

What you have to take into account in these cases, is quite evident: the image quality of the screen has to do with many more things than with the resolution. We can find some that also have laminated screens that leave us quite realistic colors and good viewing angles, but it is worth taking a look at some video analysis whenever we can to get an idea of what we are going to find.

More RAM

Another section that clearly highlights the best Chinese tablets of recent times is that in many of them we already have 4 GB of RAM (and we do not mean Windows tablets, but Android), a figure that, with some exceptions, it is only found in the high range, and that is an important fact without doubt in order to achieve a fluid multitasking.

The panorama, however, as regards the processors is very different, because it is practically impossible to find one that does not conform to a Mediatek (and this applies even to the My Pad 3). Keep in mind that these are keys to achieving good performance, especially if we are thinking of tablets to play and, in fact, we can notice even more its shortcomings in this regard precisely when we bet on tablets with the highest possible resolution.

More storage capacity

One more fact that we are finding that in the most interesting models that have been launched lately is always very positive: while in the basic and average range the normal is 16 GB and we will rarely find 32 GB but in tablets of range medium-high and high, every time we have more Chinese tablets with relatively low prices that leave us nothing less than 64 GB.

And here there are not many buts that we can put, because most also come with a slot for micro-SD card (although it is interesting to always check that this is the case, because although 64 GB is a sufficiently respectable number for not miss her, you will always be grateful to have the option).

Tablets with Windows 10

Find a tablet with cheap Windows is probably right now the main reason for you to recommend that you look among the Chinese tablets, although it is true that there is an option if you are not interested. For example, the Miix 320 leaves us with some very solvent technical specifications and costs only 300 euros. The import offer, in any case, is much broader and more varied, and includes many models with dual boot.

Here we must link to the issue that processors are usually a weak point of Chinese tablets and is that one of the reasons why there is much more variety of cheap tablets with Windows in this field is, in part at least, because continue to launch models with Intel Atom, something that virtually no manufacturer does. They usually arrive with acceptable configurations in memory (4-6 GB of RAM and 64-128 GB of storage), but we do not need to tell you that with these chips, for the most demanding tasks, we can be short of power. There are models in any case with Intel Core m3 processors, still somewhat limited, but much less, and with prices not so low, but still interesting.
